Drawing on Foucault, Locke, and Marx, Dinesh Wadiwel argues that our relationships with animals are essentially hostile — our sovereign claim over other animals is founded on violence, and property in animals represents a biopolitical conquest.
The War against Animals (Brill, 2015) asks us to interrogate the sustained violence against animals across its intersubjective, institutional, and epistemic dimensions. Wadiwel draws from political theory to frame the exploitation of animals in industry, food production, and other domains as a form of war.
