动物也吃动物,为什么我们不能?

野生动物缺乏道德能动性,而人类具有道德推理能力。我们不应以其他物种的行为作为自己伦理选择的基准。 Wild animals lack moral agency, but humans have the capacity for moral reasoning. We should not use the behavior of other species as the benchmark for our own ethical choices.

This argument commits the “appeal to nature” fallacy. Wild animals also kill their young, engage in forced mating, and have no concept of property rights — yet we do not use these behaviors to justify the same in human society.

Humans are moral agents: we have the ability to reflect on our actions, understand consequences, and make ethical choices. The fact that a lion eats a zebra does not give us moral permission to breed, confine, and slaughter billions of animals in factory farms.
