The concept of “humane farming” suggests that we can exploit and kill animals ethically as long as we treat them “well” beforehand. But this misses the fundamental point: animals are sentient beings with an interest in continuing to live.
Even on the best “humane” farms, animals are killed at a fraction of their natural lifespan. The question is not how we use animals, but whether we have the right to use them at all when alternatives exist.
