物种歧视是指仅基于物种差异而给予不同道德关怀的偏见,类似于种族歧视和性别歧视,是一种不合理的歧视形式。 Speciesism is the prejudice of giving different moral consideration based solely on species membership — an unjustified form of discrimination analogous to racism and sexism.
The term “speciesism” was coined by Richard Ryder in 1970 and popularized by Peter Singer in Animal Liberation (1975). It describes the assumption that human interests always outweigh the interests of other species, regardless of the nature or severity of those interests.
Just as racism arbitrarily discriminates based on race, speciesism arbitrarily discriminates based on species. The capacity to suffer — not species membership — should be the relevant criterion for moral consideration.
